RTO No. 46598 Nationally Recognised Training

About us

Training the workforce that cares for Australia

ACHC is a registered training organisation delivering nationally recognised qualifications in individual support, disability and first aid — built with employers, taught by people who have done the job.

The Australian College of Health and Community (ACHC) trains people for work in aged care, disability support and community services. We are a Registered Training Organisation, which means the qualifications we issue are recognised by employers anywhere in Australia and listed on the national register at training.gov.au.

Why we exist

Australia does not have enough skilled care workers, and the shortfall is getting worse as the population ages and the NDIS grows. That is a workforce problem, but for the people waiting on support it is a much more immediate one.

We were set up to train people who are job-ready on day one — not people who have passed an assessment. That distinction drives most of the decisions we make about how we teach.

How we teach

  • Trainers who have done the work
Every trainer holds current industry experience alongside their training and assessment credentials. What you learn is what the job actually looks like.
  • Practice before placement
Skills are taught in a simulated care environment with current equipment, so the first time you support someone is not the first time you have tried.
  • Placement we arrange
We organise your supervised work placement with our industry partners. You are not left to find your own host.
  • Support that is offered, not rationed
Language, literacy and numeracy help, reasonable adjustment and welfare referrals are available to every student, at any point in their course.

Who we train

Most of our students are changing careers, returning to work, or already working in care and formalising skills they have picked up on the job. A good number are studying while working shifts or raising children. Our delivery is built around that reality rather than around a full-time timetable.

We warmly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to study with us, and we work to make our training culturally safe as well as accessible.

Our obligations

ACHC operates under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 and the 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations, and is regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Those obligations cover the quality of our training and assessment, the accuracy of our marketing, how we handle your money, and how you can complain if we get something wrong. They are set out in full in Our Policies.
