Course Overview
This course reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.
Graduates take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role. You will build factual, technical and procedural knowledge, along with the theoretical concepts and practices required to provide high-quality, person-centred support in residential, home and community settings.

Mode of Delivery & Work Placement
Blended delivery
Online real-time theory tutorials with on-campus skills training in a simulated care environment. Around 20 contact hours per week, plus approximately 15 hours per week of self-paced study.
Professional Experience Placement (120 hours)
Placement commences after you complete all theory and simulation-based assessments. You will work alongside a buddy staff member under workplace supervision, with an ACHC trainer monitoring your progress. All placements are arranged by ACHC.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification; however, applicants should demonstrate the ability to perform tasks as required by the industry.

Assessment, RPL & Credit Transfer
Assessment is consistent with training package requirements, the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence. The course uses three assessment methods:
- Theory Assessment (TA)
- Simulation-based Assessment (SBA)
- Professional Experience Placement (PEP)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available based on evidence of previous skills, experience and learning. Credit Transfer is granted for equivalent units previously completed with ACHC or another RTO. See the RPL & Credit Transfer Policy and apply via Our Resources.
